The Saturn V was only the second NASA launch vehicle not originally developed as a military ICBM. (The first was the Saturn IB). Built specifically to send American astronauts to the moon, the Saturn V was a massive three-stage rocket system that remains, to this day, the most powerful booster ever in regular operation. Assembled in a custom-designed Vertical Assembly Building (VAB), the Saturn V had to be rolled out to its launch pad by a massive crawler whose top speed was a blistering 0.5 mph. |
This unusual, wildly off-scale Saturn V kit was manufactured by the obscure Cashulette Engineering Co. and was available either through mail-order or at the Alabama Space & Rocket Center and Kennedy Space Center gift shops. The Saturn V itself was a one-piece model; only the crawler required assembly. This model was built from an original issue. |
