The ships in "Concept Spacecraft" and "Pop Culture" could all be labeled "science fiction."  But this section deals with serious spacecraft proposals and prognostications, not vehicles created primarily as stages for dramatic storytelling. From the piloted rockets proposed by German scientists in World War II to NASA's cancelled "next generation" space shuttles, all of these models incorporate some degree of serious rocket science that allows them to stand as genuine artifacts of futures that never were.
