ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

Featured prominently in James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi classic "ALIENS," the Colonial Marines Drop Ship is a heavily armored flying transport used to insert combat-ready Colonial Marines into hostile extraterrestrial environments. Carried aboard interstellar cruisers, Drop Ships are capable of both atmospheric and exo-atmospheric flight, have advanced VTOL capabilities and boast an array of missiles and gunnery that make them formidable ground-attack weapon systems in their own right. Carried within each Drop Ship's cargo hold is an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) that can be released within seconds of touchdown. Each APC can hold a dozen or more fully equipped Colonial Marines.

Mastered by Alfred Wong, this all-resin kit was released by Fantastic Plastic Models in July 2008.  Although half the size of Halcyon's styrene kit, this model was nearly as complex, featuring 67 pieces, and featured weapons "arms" that could be built in either the open or closed positions.  (JBOT's decal sheet was also nearly as complete at Halcyon's.)  However, unlike the Halycon kit, this one included an in-scale Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), a feature that was in high demand among "Aliens" afficiandoes.
