ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

Based on the V-22 "Osprey," the Bell "Eagle Eye" is a tiltrotor VTOL Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed to conduct covert surveillance missions.  First flown in 1992, the craft -- with a body from Scaled Composites combined with off-the-shelf helicopter components -- underwent extensive testing throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, and is now available for use operationally by the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy for intelligence-gathering missions considered too dangerous -- or lengthy -- for conventional manned aircraft.

This all-resin kit was released by Unicraft in 2004.  In 1:72 scale, it's pretty tiny: just 3 inches long!  Although the kit came with landing gear, the resin pieces were too brittle and small to work with effectively, so these gear were improved from parts from spare resin kits.

The model was built from an original issue.
