ABOUT THE KIT

The centerpiece of Paramount's fourth "Star Trek" TV series, the U.S.S. Voyager was a very fast and very powerful Intrepid-class cruiser that could carry a crew of up to 200.  Featuring a more ovoid "saucer" section and lacking the "neck" of a traditional Federation starship, the Voyager also boasted moveable warp nacelles that rotated into an angled position for faster-than-light travel.  (Supposedly this allowed the Voyager to exceed the Warp 5 "speed limit" without polluting the space-time continuum -- although this was never explained in the show itself.)

It's generally agreed that Revell/Monogram did a better job with their "Star Trek" kits than AMT/Ertl ever did with theirs.  Certainly this "Voyager" is a fine model and, by all accounts, is extremely accurate.  The kit was released in 1995 in this original version, then again in '97 in a "Special Edition" kit that featured a more detailed decal sheet, an open shuttle bay and even an in-scale shuttlecraft.
