ABOUT THE DESIGN |
ABOUT THE KIT |
|
Featured in Episode #119 "First
Duty" of ST:TNG, the Trainer was a
one-man shuttle-sized craft used to help Starfleet Academy cadets practice
intra-system piloting, navigation and battle tactics. Capable of both
space and atmospheric flight, the Trainer was powered by two impulse engines
and had no warp capabilities. The Trainer miniature was built specifically for the "First Duty" episode and marked the craft's one and only appearance on the series. |
The Starfleet Academy Trainer model was sculpted by Alfred Wong and cast by Controlled Energy Designs. It featured a clear resin canopy, clear red resin engine exhaust grills, cockpit and a very nicely sculpted female pilot figure. The kit's extensive decal sheet was by JBOT. An even more extensive decal sheet was created by the Trainer's designer, Rick Sternbach, and is available from his website, Space Model Systems. This model is currently available from the Fantastic Plastic Virtual Museum Store. For more details, CLICK HERE. |
