ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

Between "VTBOS"'s first and second seasons, the SSRN Seaview underwent a major overhaul.  Its eight-pane observation nose was redesigned and scaled back to feature just four windows.  Two sonar "bumps" were added to its front end.  And, perhaps most important of all, the vessel was fitted with a large docking bay directly beneath the observation room to accommodate its new support craft, the Flying Sub.

This new Seaview was the submarine that "Voyage" fans would come to know and love for the show's five remaining seasons.

In 2002, Polar Lights delighted fantastic plastic modelers worldwide by re-releasing Aurora's famous -- and long out-of-production - Seaview model kit.  However, like the original, this was the eight-pane motion picture and TV Season One version, not the venerable four-windowed craft to which most fans were accustomed.

To meet the demand for the classic TV design, several aftermarket companies quickly released resin customizing kits.  One of them, Skyhook Models, offered a kit consisting of a new front end that not only included the four-windowed observation room, but the docking bay, the sonar bumps and even a mini Flying Sub.  With a little filling, sanding and painting -- voila! -- modelers could have a "TV Classic" Seaview of their very own!

This model is the Polar Lights Seaview combined with the Skyhook Models accessorizing kit.
