ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

"Star Trek: Enterprise" (Originally just "Enterprise," but they weren't fooling anybody.) was UPN's "prequel" to the original Gene Roddenberry "Star Trek" saga.  Set in the early 22nd Century, the series followed the exploits of the "first" Enterprise crew aboard a prototype Warp 5 starship.  Naturally, all the technology needed to be "retro-ed" to suggest a pre-TOS universe.  This included the design of the ship's two "shuttle pods," impulse-driven landing craft that bore an unfortunate resemblance to the cheesy "hovercraft" used in the "Logan's Run" TV series of the mid-1970s.  "Retro," indeed!

This is the 1/48-scale resin version of the NX Class Shuttlepod from Xaam Models of Canada.  It complements Alliance Models' smaller 1:72 scale version also in this collection.  This extremely well-cast model is currently available from Starship Modeler, Federation Models and will soon be offered by Sci-Fi Models.

Thanks to the manufacturer for this review copy!
