ABOUT THE KIT

2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger" featured numerous "Luft '46"-style aircraft based on actual designs developed by both Germany and the United States during the early 1940s. The most impressive of these was the Flying Wing, a gigantic flying aircraft carrier capable of delivering nuclear weapons to cities on America's East Coast.

Designed by Daniel Simon, the Flying Wing was a clever melding of the Horten 229 "Gotha" and the Northrop YB-35. Its 540-foot wingspan, which would have easily made it the largest aircraft ever flown. The plane's eight rear-facing propellers were not actually part of the aircraft itself, but were the rear ends of the eight nuclear-armed "Parasit" planes it carried aboard. These propellers helped boost the Flying Wing on take-off, but were not needed for cruising.

The Hydra Flying Wing was released by Fantastic Plastic Models in August 2012. The 1:288 kit was mastered by Alfred Wong and cast by Mana Studios. Decals were by JBOT.

The kit consisted of a single roto-cast body and more than 40 additional resin pieces, including landing gear. Even in 1:288 scale, the model still had an enormous 22.5-inch wingspan!
