McCulloch MC-4/YH-30 (1951) |
| ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
|
First flown in 1951, the
MC-4 was a somewhat larger version of the Jovanovich JOV-3, first flown in
1948. The brainchild of aeronautical engineer Drago Jovanovich, the
craft was conceIved as a "personal helicopter" that could be used for
business or recreational purposes. The U.S. Army also evaluated the
craft as a recon vehicle under the designation YH-30. With light metal skin over a tubular steel framework, the MC-4 had a single 200 hp Franklin piston engine mounted horizontally amidships. The tricycle landing gear were fixed. Unfortunately, no orders from the craft were received from either the public or private sectors. Jovanovich later formed his own company and produced a slightly larger, four-seater version of this craft - The SedanE -- which he sold in small quantities in the mid-1960s. |
