ABOUT THE DESIGN:    ABOUT THE MODEL:
More than three kilometers in diameter, the Trade Federation battleships were actually modified Lucrehulk-class star-freighters.  (The Trade Federation was apparently too stingy to spring for actual military-grade vessels.)  Heavily encrusted with turbolaser cannons, these formidable warships provided needed defense against pirates, smugglers and others who would interfere with the Trade Federation's lawful commerce.

In any theater of military operations, the Trade Federation would also post a Droid Control Ship.  This was a Lucrehulk vessel crammed with electronics so as to serve as the central "brain" for its contingent of battle-droids.

In both cases, the spherical "hub" of the battleship -- which housed the ship's bridge and main power generator -- could be detached and land on a given planet.

Introduced in 1999's "The Phantom Menace," the Trade Federation battleship was one of the most distinctive capital ships conceived for the "Star Wars" universe.  Although the vessel appeared in all three SW "pre-quels," it has never been the subject of a model kit -- styrene or resin -- until now.
