ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

The original TOS "Bird of Prey" was little more than a bootheel with two stubby wings and a pair of warp nacelles slapped to its side.  By contrast, this massive Warbird -- first seen in ST:TNG's first season closer "The Neutral Zone" -- had a look and texture that was uniquely its own.

Original plans called for the ship's "wings" to be arranged vertically, with the warp engines at the top and bottom, but it was ultimately decided to proceed with this more traditional aerodynamic configuration.

The Romulan Warbird was never released individually, but rather was part of a three-piece "Adversary" set that also included a Ferrengi Marauder and a Klingon Bird-of-Prey.  However, the Warbird was the unquestioned centerpiece of this kit, and here it is displayed independently.

This model was built from an original issue.
