ABOUT THE DESIGN |
ABOUT THE KIT |
| In the mid-1950s, the U.S. Army investigated the viability of "flying jeeps" -- combination helicopters and hovercraft -- as a means of transporting men and supplies over otherwise impassable terrain. The Piasecki ZV8-P was first test flown on October 12, 1958. Although the design was regularly upgraded and tested over the next half-decade, the whole concept of "flying jeeps" was ultimately abandoned in favor of conventional helicopters |
The Piasecki ZV8-P Airgeep was first produced in the 1950's by ITC, a division of Ideal Toy Corp. In 1988, the kit was resurrected by Glencoe Models. Although an original ITC version was once part of this collection, this model is a copy of the Glencoe kit. |
