| When the creators of the Sci-Fi Channel's remake of a certain 1970s sci-fi classic decided to "re-imagine" the series, they updated not only the premise, characters and storyline, but the technology as well. Gone were the greeblie-covered flying saucers piloted by the chrome-plated robots of the old series; the new "Raiders" were not only far more sinister in appearance, but they were autonomous, self-aware cyborgs. With metal exteriors and organic interiors, these raiders were "alive" in every sense. And, as we learned in the series' 2nd Season, when "killed," a Raider's programming was "downloaded" to a central processing center so it could be "resurrected" in a new body -- its memories and experiences intact. |
